Pangong lake

Pangong lake is one of the most popular attractions in Ladakh for bird watchers as it acts as an important breeding point for several migratory birds

Pangong lake is located 154 kilometers southeast of Leh and is one of the largest brackish lakes in Asia. Stretching from eastern Ladakh to Tibet, it is a 134 kilometer long narrow strip of water where tourist require an Inner Line Permit to visit.
It is nestled at an altitude of 14,256 feet above sea level and freezes completely during the winters.
The saltwater of this lake has a very sparse vegetation and is bereft of any aquatic life except for small crustaceans.
However, this lake is a haven for bird watchers as it acts as an important breeding point for several migratory birds such as Brahmini ducks and Bar-headed goose.

Pangong Lake is one of the most popular attractions in Ladakh. Also known as the Hollow Lake or Pangong Tso its area is two-third in Tibet (Chinese territory), one-third of it lies in eastern Ladakh, it has blessed with breathtaking surroundings.
During the winter season, the lake turns rock solid and becomes the venue of ice skating festival.
Inner Line Permit can be taken from the deputy commissioner of Leh by giving a small fee.

Spangmik Village
Located around 7 kilometers along the southern shores, it is the farthest village of Pangong area. From here, one can enjoy spectacular views of the Chang-Chenmo range mountains.
